People have told me that I have a gift for teaching. This may be true, but more important than gifting is preparation and practice. Effective Bible teachers learn and practice the basic elements of preparing lessons. Years ago, while attending a teacher training seminar I heard a man say, "Remember this: we teach people not lessons.
For over 30 years I have devoted myself to teaching the Bible. I have taught many Sunday School classes and led small group Bible discussions.
The goal of the hook is to focus on a life issue your class can feel remember, we teach people not lessons. The purpose is to get the students' attention and involve everyone. The hook should relate to the application of the lesson. When explaining a Bible passage, focus on the main points of the text not every detail.
By asking questions, you can involve the class members in discovering these main ideas. A concise summary from you, the teacher is always helpful. The job of the teacher is not only to explain the text, but to show how the text applies today. It is best to focus on one main application. Prepare discussion questions and encourage the class to express their ideas and feelings. We offer free printable Bible study lessons with discussion questions.
The students will more likely participate if they are in small group of no more than six. Motivate the class to put the scriptural principles they learned into practice. Based on various scriptures with strong Gospel presentation. We want to make Easter about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But what should you teach if your Sunday school curriculum does not have a dated lesson for Easter? Resurrection Eggs — Another popular option is to use a special Easter lesson like the Resurrection Eggs. Most churches have a set somewhere in their Sunday school department. It is basically an extended object lesson with twelve eggs each having a clue about the meaning of Easter.
I like the Gospel focus of this approach, but would be a little hesitant to do such a complicated object lesson. Crafts are always a great way to promote hands on learning. There are so many powerful symbols of Easter in the Christian tradition. These can easily be used to retell and teach the story of Jesus being raised from the dead. You always come a step ahead of the week or weeks before an event and that means a lot.

View Less.April Then the anger of the king abated. Here in this passage, we find Esther making her plea and request to King Xerxes, also called Ahasuerus. The story of Esther began in BC, which was years after Nebuchadnezzar took Jewish people into captivity. Even after King Cyrus allowed them to return, many Jews stayed and lived in Persia because they experienced great freedom. Xerxes was the fifth king of Persia the kingdom that overthrew and ruled much of the same territory as Babylonia and during that time was considered a dominant force to be reckoned with both in wealth and influence.
As queen, she kept her heritage as a Jew secret. As a result, Haman plotted to kill Mordecai and all the Jews, which is why Esther found herself pleading with King Xerxes to reverse the decree to kill all the Jews. Lesson Commentary:. It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Even to the half of my kingdom, it shall be fulfilled. If we had been sold merely as slaves, men and women, I would have held my peace; but no enemy can compensate for this damage to the king.
The name of God never appears in the entire book of Esther, yet we see God at work throughout it. How do we see God at work in our own lives, even when He does not draw attention to Himself? But it was not an easy task. Esther understood that she had minimal rights as a queen. The text does not mention the name of God; however, it assumes that in her fasting, it was God who had covered her as she prepared herself to ask the king her request.
Haman had a direct hatred against the Jews. Unfortunately, when he entered the banquet of the queen, he was unaware of her identity as a Jewish woman. The king had already proclaimed that he was both willing to hear and approve her requests, which is evidence that God had honored the prayers and fasting to provide her with favor from the king even before she made her requests known.
It will be given to you. She emphasizes this is not because the Jewish people have offended the government but because the hatred and prejudice of one man is the potential cause of their destruction.
What strategy did Esther formulate in her approach to the king, and how was that important in her achieving her outcome to save her people? How might Esther have felt bearing the weight of saving the lives of herself, her family, and her people? Once the king realizes what Haman had done, he become outraged. The king in his anger walks to the garden to cool off and comes to the realization that Haman fooled him.
What was at one point a banquet of joy quickly becomes a turning point of terror for Haman as he realizes that he was in line for judgement.
Haman, once a proud noble, finds himself at the foot of the woman he wished to destroy; the roles are reversed. It was the practice to cover the face of the one who was condemned to death because the Persian king refused to look at them.
The king then orders that the pole Haman had built for Mordecai should become the measure by which his own life is taken. Mordecai is now given the position of honor, and Haman is executed. Identify a time when you did not stand up for justice.
Does it seem just that Haman was put to death with the same pole that he had initially designed to kill Mordecai on? Why or why not? Lesson in Our Society. In our world today, many people find themselves persecuted, marginalized, and oppressed because of their race, immigration status, and position in society.About the Toolbox This page provides Sunday School discipleship leaders with an array of tools to use in their ministries and personal spiritual lives.
